"Work fast, Work safe, Work smart."

Before beginning any electrical repairs,
turn off the power at your service panel, fuse box, or breaker box.

If you know which fuse or breaker controls the circuit you will be working on, remove that fuse or trip that breaker.

If there is any doubt, you can remove the main fuse or trip the main breaker.

Use the A/C detecting lights on the PlugGrip® to confirm the electricity is off.

  1. To be sure you disconnect the correct circuit, insert the PlugGrip® into the outlet before beginning work. The power warning lights of the PlugGrip® should be on.

  2. Remove the fuse or trip the circuit breaker to OFF for the outlet you are replacing.

  3. The power indicator lights of the PlugGrip® should now be off. If not, you have thrown the wrong fuse or breaker and will need to try again.

  4. Remove the PlugGrip® then unscrew and remove the faceplate.

  5. Re-insert the PlugGrip® then unscrew the mounting screws at top and bottom of the outlet and pull the outlet from the box while gripping the PlugGrip®.

  6. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the wires on both sides of the outlet.

  7. Pull the old outlet off of the PlugGrip® and insert the PlugGrip® into your new outlet.

  8. Reconnect the wires as directed on the back of the outlet. White insulated wires usually connect to the silver screws or into the holes marked "WHITE" on the outlet. Black insulated wires usually connect to the brass screws or into the holes marked "HOT" on the back of the outlet. The ground wire, which has no insulating cover, connects to the green screw.

  9. If not, and a loose ground wire is present, connect it to the grounding screw attached to the top of the metal support plate.

  10. Using the PlugGrip® to control the stiff electrical wires, push the outlet and wires back into the electrical box and screw the outlet, top and bottom, to the box. You can now replace the fuse or trip the circuit breaker to ON. The power indicator lights of the PlugGrip should light up.

Remember when replacing outlets and switches it is very helpful to label the wires or make a drawing and, wire the new outlet or light switch in the same way the old outlet or light switch was wired.

If any problems occur, consult a qualified electrician.
